In these areas the aim was
to introduce CRA
practices to assist with
building resilience in
sustainable agriculture
and resource
management.
CRA learning groups were
established to implement
CbCCa practices.
CRA emphasis on
household level aiming to
improve aspects of crop
production, livestock
management, soil and
water management, social
agency.

Homestead production
•Intensive homestead
production includes
vegetables,fruitand
livestock production.
•CRA practices includes;
mixed cropping, crop
rotation,mulching, deep
and shallow trench beds,
pests and disease control,
grey water and water
management

Market and enterprise development
•Ned learning group had their first
market day in town.
•Matatiele town had a lot of
competition and time of arrival to the
stall is important as cooking mamas
and fresh produce markets source
vegetables earlyin the morning.
•Fruits and vegetable shop in town
also buy fresh produce in the
morning everyday.
•Farmgate (selling with the village) are
more functional.
•Enterprise development: On 0-1ha of
land they plant cabbages, spinach,
green peppers turnip, sugar beans
and potatoes to sell locally.
•They plant yellow maize, soyabeans,
sugar beans and sunflower for their
small livestock and cattle.
•Mrs. Skhosana handcraft mats, hats.

to sell locally.

Microclimate management and greywater
management
•Irrigation practices; bucket drip
irrigation.
•Bucket drip irrigation allows
farmerstousegreywaterfor
irrigation.

shade cloth tunnels .

tunnels both in Ned and
Nchodu.

Micro-finance support (VSLA)
•Village savings and loan
associations (VSLA) aim to
provide farmers with cash flow
to contribute to their way of
living, buying agricultural
inputs, assist in establishing
small business.
•VSLAgroupsareestablished
to create a pool of money
locally which participants can
borrow and repay at a 10%
interest rate.
•Money is contributed and
managed by participants.
•The groups meet once a month
to save and borrow, share-out is
done once a year at the finish of
their saving cycle.
•Nchodu started their first group
called Thuthukani savings group
with 19 members, which
startedonthe2nd of July 2024
and have FNB stokvel account.

startedwith both the
learning group and villagers
as beneficiaries.

water committee and

their options.
