trainings
•MDF isworking in 8 villagestotaling with 8 learning groups

•Wehave9VSLAgroupsintotal,runningindifferentcycles.Someareintheirfirstcycle,whileothersareontheirthirdcycle.
•TwoVSLAgroupsinWillows,oneatSanteng,oneatSedawa,oneatWorcester,TwogroupsatTurkeyandtwogroupsatMadeira.
•VSLA groups were developed to help farmers have access to Pool funds with a common purpose and outcome of helping them
with regards to participating in food production and general improvement of our households.
•Promote both personal and group development.
•FarmerssavefromR100toR1000.
•Most farmers have started businessinitiative with funds from VSLA, egg production business,tuckshops, selling peanutbutter
locally.
Farmers market
•Farmersareparticipatingin differentmarketpools.LocalandHoedspruitmarket.
•Mametja-SekororoPGS is part of PGSSA, where MDF and AWARD has helped with training farmers who wanted to be organically
endorsed. 13 farmers have been assessed for PGS so far this year and they are using the stickers on their produce.
•FarmersroughlymakeaboutR300 a dayongatemarket.ThemaximumincomemadeatHoedspruitmarketisR1400.
•Some farmers have access to Joburg market, where they send their produce to a brokers to sell for them and they make an
income. They used CP Minaar transport where they pay depending on the weight of their produce.
Poultryfarming
•MDFhasintroducedpoultryfarmingas a businessinitiative.
•Wehaveonefarmerfromrunningegglayerproductionandsheissellingeggslocallyandalsosupplying
Hoedspruit.
•FourfarmersfromWillowsarerunningbroilerfarming.
•MDFhasintroducedBoschveldchickensandfarmersarelovinghowstrongthebreedistomanage
unlikethebroilers.
Seed propagationfruit
production
•Farmerspropagatetheirownvegetableseedlingstotransplanttotheirtrench
beds.
•They also propagate fruit tree seeds to make seedlings and sell locally.
•Fruit production is also growing, they started with mangoes no they have added
litchi fruit trees in their gardens, 80 trees were planted in August.
